NICE
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Nice, which throughout the ages has changed hands many times is today a culturally and architecturally enriched cosmopolitan tourist destination. Your evening is at leisure.

Day 3, Friday 21 September
NICE
Depart on a sightseeing tour of Nice and its surrounds today as you begin to discover the city’s landmarks such as the Theatre National, Russian Cathedral and the Cote d’Azure. Travel nearby to visit the famous Monte Carlo, famed for it’s Grand Prix, Casino and extravagance.

NICE
Spend you final day in Nice exploring more of the city’s rich culture. The mild Mediterranean climate, clear air and soft light not only attracted the English upper classes in the second half of the 18th century but also famous painters like Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse whose works are commemorated in many of the city’s museums.

NICE – AVIGNON
Farewell Nice as you transfer to Avignon where your Viking Cruise Ship is docked and ready for boarding. After settling-in take some time to explore Avignon - the “City of Popes” as it is sometimes called due to the presence of popes and antipopes from 1309 to 1423 during the Catholic schism. See famous landmarks like Rocher des Doms, and the bridge of Avignon.

ARLES
Arrive in Arles during breakfast and join a tour of the city and its architectural highlights. Experience the city’s vibrant colours and quality of light that have inspired artists. Visit the impressive Roman ruins, including Les Arènes arena as well as Romanesque monuments. After lunch, the afternoon is free for you to explore before cruising back toward Avignon.

AVIGNON & VIVIERS
Back in Avignon see the ancient town centre surrounded by its medieval ramparts, stopping at Pont d’Avignon and Place de l’Horloge and the Palace of the Popes amongst others. After dinner arrive in Viviers, a quaint town where you can enjoy an evening stroll.

TOURNON
After a scenic morning cruise and lunch aboard, take a tour through Tournon to Tain l’Hermitage, a region known for its wine and gourmet chocolate. During a guided tour of the area, learn about the region’s winemaking traditions and taste some famous regional red wines. Dine aboard and cruise through the evening.

VIENNE & LYON
This morning, sightsee Vienne, a beautiful town with an ancient Roman past. Visit the Temple of Augustus & Livia, the Roman amphitheater, and the Gothic Cathedral of St. Maurice. Cruise to Lyon this afternoon after lunch and enjoy free time to explore this remarkable 2,000-year-old city.

LYON
After breakfast, tour Lyon by beginning with a drive to the top of Fourvière Hill for amazing views of the city. Visit the Basilica of Notre Dame, St. Jean Cathedral and the Palace of Justice. Then walk the cobbled streets of Vieux Lyon (Old Town), to shop or sample some of the fine French cuisine for which Lyon is world-famous.

BURGUNDY & BEAUNE
After breakfast, travel the Burgundy wine route through Pommard, Volnay and Meursault. Arrive in Beaune, wine capital of Burgundy, for a tour of beautiful Hotel Dieu. Learn about local viticulture and enjoy wine tasting before lunch followed by some free time to explore this pretty town on the scenic Saone River.

After breakfast, you will disembark your ship and travel by coach to Chantilly, famous for its magnificent chateau and historic hose racing track.

CHANTILLY – SOMME - CHANTILLY
Enjoy early morning track work and watch the horses train throughout the magnificent forests surrounding Chantilly. Mid morning depart for the battlefields of the Somme visiting key sites at Pozieres and Viller-Bretonneux. Return to Chantilly later today.

CHANTILLY - DEAUVILLE
Depart Chantilly this morning, travelling via Rouen the historic capital city of Normandy where Joan of Arc was burnt to death in 1431. Continue on to Deauville, regarded as “queen of the Norman beaches” and one of the most prestigious seaside resorts in of France. The surrounding area is home to numerous stud farms making it the main horse breeding region in France.

Today you will visit some of the regions most renowned stud farms. Deauville’s two racecourses and the surrounding prominent stud farms attract visitors from all over the world each year. Deauville is a sister city to Lexington, Kentucky and Kildare in Ireland.
