Royal Ascot is one of the most famous race meetings in the world with over 300 years of history and is a sporting venue rich in heritage and culture and attended by members of the British Royal Family as they arrive in a horse-drawn carriage.
A national institution, Royal Ascot is the centrepiece of the British social calendar. Each year, the tradition, pageantry and fashion combine at one of the most beautiful settings in the country.
There are few sporting events that can match the rich history of racing at Ascot. Over 300,000 visitors attend the event over the 5 day racing carnival. The quality of the racing at Royal Ascot is simply outstanding, with nearly £4 million in prize money on offer and a total of eighteen ‘Group’ races over the five days.
At least one group race is run every day of the carnival. The Kings Stand Stakes on the first day and the Golden Jubilee Stakes is run on the last day. Australian horses have been successful in these events in the past and no doubt they will have a strong representation in these events again in 2012.
Last year this wildly popular racing event marked its 300th birthday, and continues to deliver an excellent programme of racing - combining drama, beauty, glamour, excitement and horsemanship.
Newmarket is the headquarters of the British Racing Board and has a history dating as far back as 1174 making it the earliest known racing venue of post classical times. It is also the European base of the largest racing and breeding conglomerate in the world – Darley.
Your accommodation is centrally located and is in walking distance to some of the leading English trainer’s stables which house many of the contenders for Royal Ascot including the Australian contingency. Hopefully Black Caviar will take her campaign to Royal Ascot and prove that she is indeed the world’s best.
During your stay in Newmarket you will visit stables, watch horses train on the heath, take in the National Thoroughbred Museum and mix with racing’s elite in this quaint English town as everything gears towards Royal Ascot. As well you will visit Dalham Hall, the renowned stud farm owned by Sheik Mohammed Maktoum of Dubai.
Currently heading the line up of seven stallions at Dalham Hall is Dubawi – a talented young stallion and the son of one of the most famous stallions to stand at Dalham Hall, Dubai Millenium.
