It is with great pleasure that I invite you to join me for the 2011 Calgary Stampede - the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.’ For ten days each year, over a million visitors from all over the world gather in Calgary for the most famous western themed festival in the world. |
Starting in Vancouver, we will travel along Coquihalla Highway, through the Canadian Rocky Mountains and past the wineries of the Okanagan Valley before arriving in picturesque Banff.
We continue on to Calgary for a world class rodeo during the final weekend of the Stampede.

Day 1, Sunday 10 July
BRISBANE – VANCOUVER
Make your way to Brisbane International Airport for your flight to Vancouver, where on arrival you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel for check-in.

Day 2, Monday 11 July
VANCOUVER
Today you will enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Vancouver and discover why it was named one of the most livable cities in the world. Situated between the Pacific Ocean and snow-capped mountains, this elegant city is sure to delight every visitor. Some sights on your tour may include Granville Island, Gastown and Stanley Park. The remainder of your day is at leisure.

Day 3, Tuesday 12 July
VANCOUVER – KELOWNA
Depart Vancouver this morning and travel southeast along the Trans Canada and Coquihalla Highway. Pass through the wineries of the Okanagan Valley were you might have the opportunity to sample a variety of hand-crafted Okanagan wines in this unique and authentic setting, surrounded by the actual vineyards where the fruit is produced on site. In the evening you will arrive at Kelowna for an overnight stay.

Day 4, Wednesday 13 July
KELOWNA – BANFF
This morning continue your journey north through the Okanagen Valley and the town of Vernon, home of Silver Star Ski Area. Upon entering the Rocky Mountains region, the scenery changes dramatically to raging rivers, waterfalls, towering mountains and glaciers. Travel to Banff National Park and make a brief stop at the famous Lake Louise which is also known as “The Jewel of the Rockies”, before arriving in the town of Banff.

Day 5, Thursday 14 July
BANFF
A sightseeing tour of this beautiful township of Banff awaits you this morning. Enjoy many wonderful sights as you learn about the history of this popular destination famous for its natural setting and hot springs. This excursion will also take you along Tunnel Mountain Drive for great views of Banff and its surroundings that may include Cascade Mountain, the Hoodoos, Mount Rundle and Bow Falls.

Day 6, Friday 15 July
BANFF – CALGARY
Continue on to Calgary today and travel along the Rundle Range and view the Three Sisters, a trio of magnificent mountain peaks en-route. Located at the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, Calgary is set against a beautiful landscape and home of the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth’ – the annual Calgary Stampede. On arrival in Calgary you will check in at your centrally located hotel.

Day 7, Saturday 16 July
CALGARY
Immerse yourself in Stampede fever today as everyone in Calgary forgets their daily routines during Stampede time and dress up in Western attire for the big celebration. You may even see mock shoot-outs between cowboys as you take a stroll downtown. Enjoy the excitement of the Stampede with various entertainment options today including stage shows, a midway, concerts, and more.

Day 8, Sunday 17 July
CALGARY
Return to Stampede Park today for the final day of the exciting rodeo action. Featured events may include the famous chuckwagon races that will provide ample thrills, and fantastic stage shows. This evening, attend the grand finale of the Stampede crowned by a fireworks spectacular that bids the event farewell until next year.

CALGARY – LOS ANGELES
Transfer to the airport today for your flight to Los Angeles, where upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. The remainder of your day is at leisure in one of America’s most vibrant cities with a wealth of entertainment and sightseeing options.

Day 10, Tuesday 19 July
LOS ANGELES – AUCKLAND – BRISBANE
Spend your day free in Los Angeles and relax in and around your hotel or enjoy some of the star-studded sights. Visitors come from all over the world to look up at the famous Hollywood sign or down as they stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Later this afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your journey home.

You have the morning free to explore Vancouver, one of the most livable cities in the world. In the afternoon transfer to British Columbia Place for your 7 day Glacier Bay Inside Passage Cruise with Holland America Line. Once onboard, sit back, relax and enjoy your Cruise where you will encounter some of the world’s most stunning natural sceneries.

Day 4, Monday 4 July
CRUISE (TRACY ARM & JUNEAU)
This morning you will cruise through Tracy Arm, a narrow, 26-mile-long fjord and one of Alaska’s most dramatic glacier settings. Arrive in Juneau, once Alaska’s capital and part of the Gold Rush era. Take advantage of the extended daylight hours and enjoy a range of optional activities such as gold panning, whale watching or glacier trekking, before re-boarding and continuing on.

CRUISE (SKAGWAY)
Known as the gateway to Klondike, Skagway is preserved as a national historic park and retains the flavour of the boomtown Gold Rush days. Enjoy opportunity to explore this historic town at the foot of the famous Chilkoot Trail or ride the antique White Pass & Yukon narrow-gauge railway for a glimpse into a bygone era.

Day 6, Wednesday 6 July
CRUISE (GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK)
One of the tour highlights awaits you today - the spectacular Glacier Bay. This national park showcases snow and ice covered mountain peaks year round. The narrow fjords, coastal harbours, diverse wildlife and numerous glaciers are all on display for you as the ship cruises through this spectacular 65-mile long bay.

Day 7, Thursday 7 July
CRUISE (KETCHIKAN)
Your cruise ship will dock in Ketchikan this morning, Alaska’s first city. The town sits atop steep hills and is supported on wooden pilings, with numerous boardwalks, staircases and totem poles. Dozens of canneries have made it the “salmon capital of the world.” Enjoy the many attractions including Creek Street and Saxman Village before re-boarding the cruise.

Today you will start your journey back to Vancouver, and you can take this time to relax and take advantage of the many activities and facilities onboard. You may want to enjoy lunch by the pool while sipping on a refreshing tropical beverage or watch your favorite game via satellite at the stunning Sports Bar.

Disembark from your Alaska Cruise today in Vancouver and you will be transferred to your centrally located accommodation for check-in. The remainder of your day is at leisure in Vancouver.

Today you will meet up with the balance of the group to begin your Calgary Stampede Tour. You may want to join an optional Victoria and Butchart Gardens Day Tour to visit this national historical site on Vancouver Island featuring 55 acres of amazing floral display. |
